The Panopticon is a machine for dissociating the see/bing seen dyad; in the peripheric ring, one is totally seen, without ever seeing; in the central tower, one sees everything without ever being seen
Michel Foucault Discipline and Punish, Panopticism This project was done to highlight how individuals are now taking on the role of the state without the legislative responsibility. Today the Panopticon has been replaced by the mobile phone always on and always observing, documenting and reporting on you and your friends, through social media. This exhibition examines the lack of privacy we have today and where the role of governments has been replaced by us and the smart phone. At present we survey all our activities and that of our friends and colleagues, whether it be play, socialising, or at home, but theses photograph’s and videos can be used against you as evidence in a court of law or for malicious purposes. In this interactive exhibition you can follow the legislation and view the court cases where the New Panopticon of social media cells are used to punish us the willing prisoner. |
